In March of 2020, Scotland went into lockdown because of the spread of coronavirus. Our town was lucky - rural and in general everyone followed the rules of lockdown. We had few cases. However, we had a lot of lonely, isolated and anxious folk in the community who could not see their families or friends and had to spend so much time on their own. WomanKIND clydesdale thought it would be a lovely thing to make up and distribute Boxes of Kindness. We secured a grant from Biggar Community Council COVID-19 fund, put out a call for shoeboxes and asked the community to get their kids to decorate them. Others were asked to write wee messages or make little heart shapes (made of felt, rainbow-coloured paper or origami!) All these added up to a beautiful, original box. We then filled the boxes with goodies from two local shops, Brownlies and The Orchard. We included fresh fruit, shortbread, scones and jam, chocolate buttons and much more. We added a wee toiletry item or a plant (some bought, some donated) and then we asked the community to nominate people to receive one. We made and delivered over 300!! The response was very emotional. Just to let people know that their community cares is a very powerful and uplifting message
